Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.
Zimbabwe will host its first Startup Weekend event from May 16 – 18th at new tech venue, Hypercube Hub in an initiative designed to encourage the development and support of new tech ideas. Startup Weekend is funded by Google for Entrepreneurs and is a global platform for aspiring entrepreneurs. It stands as the single largest starting point for new entrepreneurs around the world. This May, Hypercube in conjunction with Mercy Corps, are organizing this 54-hour marathon event focused on tech-entrepreneurship as a way for aspiring entrepreneurs to create new opportunities for themselves in a challenging environment.
The theme of Zimbabwe’s inaugural Startup Weekend is, “No Limits”. It is aimed at inspiring Zimbabweans to leverage the talent they have right here in Harare. The weekend is designed to help foster the sharing of ideas and to develop new technologies that can transcend the growing sense of socio-economic isolation Zimbabwe has experienced in the past decade, getting youth plugged into networks of developers and tech entrepreneurs in other parts of Africa and beyond.
